Laura and Steve’s wedding at St Agnes Parish Church on Sunday 3rd June 2012
‘The Men in Black’ arrive with an empty crate of beer in the boot!
Laura and Steve were no doubt hoping for a ‘balmy’ June day today. However, in true British tradition the weather served up a ‘barmy’ June day instead but fortunately it didn’t spoil the fun.
The bride chose a trilogy of colours to theme the day; pink, ivory and black. A combination we hadn’t encountered before, but it really did look classy and befitting the occasion and, Lola, of course!
Following Carly and Tim’s wedding the day before, I, Chauffeur Bob and wife Kate had a very early Sunday morning alarm call. Grabbing my trusty tub of ‘megashine’ wax from underneath the pillow, followed by a caffeine infusion (or two), we teased Lola from her slumber on the premise of her second pampering session in 24 hours.
Black ribbons and ivory bows with specially made dusky pink tails. And, for that added touch, we popped a black dusky pink and ivory gerbera in Lola’s safari window mounted bud vase.
Indeed, we were so excited with the look that we sent the bride a couple of ‘teasy’ wedding morning pictures of Lola before departure.
With me, Chauffeur Bob behind the wheel, we headed eastwards down the A30 towards St Agnes for the first of three runs to the church. As always, Lola caused some erratic driving by overtaking vehicles whilst their occupants either waved frantically or wrested with their phone cameras!
I arrived in good time for my first pick up and immediately bumped into Laura and Tim’s photographer for the day, the talented Kirstin Prisk. Shortly afterwards my first consignment appeared; The Men in Black! Groom Steve, Best Man, Daniel along with Ushers, Josh, Steve, Ollie and Justin and complete with a crate of beer and a bottle opener, jumped aboard.
After delivering the boys, it was about turn and back to Mithian for the bridesmaids; Sani, Chrissy, Alys, Suzy and Becks plus Carly’s mum, Miranda. The second short journey to the church that followed was in somewhat contrast from my first. We all had a sing along, Chauffeur Bob joined in when we got to a song I knew… the wheels on the bus go round and round.

As we neared the church, I rolled back Lola’s ragtop. The girls spontaneously stood up and started waving frantically at the large crowd gathered by the entrance, jigging along to a ‘Feel Good’ CD track. Kirstin Prisk, unmistakeable in his SAS style gadget vest, was astride the middle of the road snapping away with fury.

A quick about turn and we were soon making our final approach, this time with the bride and her escort, Nic and although open to the sky, both remained seated in a far more dignified manner as one would expect from such VIP’s!
Forty five minutes later Mr. and Mrs. Kellow strolled out of the church and into the awaiting Lola.
The cork flew and champers flowed as we left St Agnes with Laura and Steve standing and waving away amidst confetti and flashes.
We made our way to a windswept and chilly Porthtowan beach for a photo session. Upon arrival, the beach looked busier than envisaged given the weather. However, most appeared to be wearing Arctic attire! Kirstin materialised in Arctic clothing soon afterwards. Bride, groom and photographer waded onto the windswept beach and snapped away.
Laura had collected two sand dunes in her shoes which Chauffeur Bob removed upon their return to Lola, much to the amusement of onlookers. “All in the call of duty” I shouted.
Finally in great spirits, we made our way to the summit of Porthtowan for a marquee reception at Mount Pleasant Eco Park.
Despite the disappointing weather, Laura and Steve acknowledged that they had a great day of fun and entertainment with Lola. I’m sure an equally enjoyable reception is underway as I’m writing this blog!
We’re really looking forward to seeing some memorable moments professionally captured by Kirstin.
Congratulations Laura and Steve – best wishes for your future happiness and hoping for better weather during your honeymoon! xx
