Juliet and Christopher’s wedding at St Paul’s Church, Tregrehan, St Austell, on Saturday 25th May 2013
Unarguably some of the finest weather this year heralded the start of a very busy day of weddings here at Strawberry Leisure. Whilst Chauffeurs, Brett and Bob were escorting Lola and Lily on other ‘journeys of a lifetime’ in the Duchy, Chauffeur Steff was entertaining with Lulu for Juliet and Christopher’s glamorous occasion. This is his report…
From time to time we find ourselves teamed up with another company, often as a result of our wonderful vehicles being so sought after that they can be booked up to 2 years ahead, and today Lulu was to pair up with another VW campervan in what was to be a fantastically fun packed day in St Austell.
I arrived early at Strawberry Leisure’s HQ to find Lily, Lola and Lulu sat basking in the sun in readiness for their busy day.
Each camper was loaded with ice cold champagne, so it was time to do our final checks before departing. I wouldn’t say that I was a forgetful person, but today I had left behind my collection of CD’s, so I borrowed one from Chauffer Bob.
It was time to set off to rendezvous with Juliet at the fabulous Boscundle Manor in St Austell. The journey would take about an hour, but we left super early as the holiday traffic can be hard to predict. On the way Lulu and I had a great time honking and waving to passers-by and we even attracted a couple of police motor cycles, who escorted us for a few miles.

The plan was to team up with another red and cream VW splitty from Cornwall VW Wedding Hire at Boscundle manor. As I chugged up the drive, I was greeted by the hotel photographer who took a few snaps whilst I positioned Lulu alongside her companion for the day.
Without delay, the bridesmaids hopped on board the other camper and set off to St Paul’s church, leaving Lulu and I with Juliet and her father, Ian, at the hotel. As it was such a superb day we spent some time with Khalile Siddiqui, who was Juliet and Christopher’s photographer, before setting off.

Eventually though, it was time and now with Juliet and her father, Ian, safely on board I reached for the CD chauffer Bob had lent me.
I turned to Juliet and said “I really don’t know what’s on this CD, but it’s bound to be some groovy tunes from the 60’s”; with that said I popped the CD in and hit the random button to add an extra edge. BOOM! The iconic sounds of Roy Orbison blasted out with a very appropriate cover of Pretty Woman … what a way to start your wedding day!
A few nervous moments just before the ceremony!

The church was less than a mile down the road, so we drove nice and slowly waving and honking at people, much to Juliet’s delight. As we approached the church, the bridesmaids were lined up ready to have a few more photographs with Juliet and Ian in the church grounds before the ceremony.
Joel Dove from Dove Films, Juliet and Christopher’s chosen Videographer for their special day was busy going about his craft.

Now there’s not a lot for a chauffeur to do during the service. After the vehicle is polished down you can usually chat with the odd onlooker, but since there were two red splitties outside the church, they were attracting quite a bit of attention – it’s fascinating how much people know about these little campers.
To take full advantage of the fantastic weather we had planned to drive to a secret location that overlooks the bay of Porthpean. Following Khalile, we drove down some of the most beautiful country lanes, over a 13th century bridge, passed some woods and although the journey seemed to take an age, the viewpoint was worth every minute.
I repositioned Lulu to take advantage of the sensational background and Christopher and Juliet became centre stage attractions as I popped the champagne cork to toast the happy couple.
Our very best wishes go to Juliet and Christopher x

A couple of day ago a lovely card arrived from Ian and Bernadette (mum and dad of Juliet). It reads…
Thank you very much for your excellent service in providing such exciting transport for Juliet + Christopher’s wedding.
Everyone loved the camper vans, making a great contribution to a magical occasion.
