Danielle and Stuart’s wedding at St. Piran’s Church, Perranzabuloe on Saturday 1st June 2013 with campervan Lulu.
The first day of ‘flaming June’ and the welcome fine weather being experienced across the Duchy continues. Although like many couples on their wedding day (and chauffeurs come to that!), the Met Office website would have been visited on a few occasions during the countdown.
The national news the day Danielle and Stuart tied the knot was also celebratory, marking Her Majesty’s 60 year, ‘Diamond’ anniversary of enthronement.
It was destination Perranporth for Chauffeur Steff. Accompanied by sizzling red-hot Lulu and armed with sun block and shades, our fun-loving chauffeur has just filed this report…
Setting off nice and early from Strawberry Leisure’s HQ to dodge the holiday traffic, Lulu chugged her way along the A30 at a steady pace honking to all those who greeted her along the way. Soon we were in Perranporth, cruising along the sea front just minutes away from that all-important rendezvous at Danielle’s bridal boudoir, which had set up station at the Ponsmere Hotel.
With Lulu nicely positioned for some flirting at the entrance of the Hotel, I informed reception of our arrival and state of readiness. It was quiet and I wondered if everyone was on the beach but then slowly but surely curtains began to twitch – heads started to pop out of the hotel windows, guests came out and before we knew it, Lulu had attracted quite a crowd.
Danielle just about to depart.
Just then Brian (Danielle’s dad) introduced himself and announced that everything was going to plan, so we would be able to set off soon. Evidently most of the wedding guests were staying at the same hotel so it was important that we waited for everyone to depart before we set off.
It wasn’t long though before all of the guests set on their way leaving just Danielle, Andrée (Danielle’s mum), Olivia and Megan (bridesmaids) and dad, Brian. Danielle wore an elegant knee length ‘A’ line dress with a strapless bodice and silk coloured sash. She looked stunning!
Before departure we ran through a mental checklist to ensure we had everything for the day and, for good measure, we checked again. You’ll be surprised how often in the past obvious things have been forgotten. Bouquets, hats and speeches, but today everything was in order.
With everyone safely on board, we chugged off slowly through the popular seaside town sounding Lulu’s klaxon and waving at onlookers and passersby. Many were noticeably excited and reciprocated by returning waves – if only they had klaxons too!
Brian was nominated as DJ; he took control of Lulu’s stereo and was making a surprisingly good job at it. Before long though the country lanes had opened up to reveal St. Piran’s Church.

As we pulled up, we had the chance of a few quick pictures before the ceremony started.
Normally there are plenty of people milling around to chat to during the ceremony. However, St. Piran’s Church is quite remote, so after polishing Lulu I took a pleasant walk around the church grounds where I found a beautiful 1934 Morris 8 vintage car belonging to one of the campanologists (posh name for bell ringers).
I must have been admiring it for some time because suddenly the church’s belfry burst into life as the campanologists set about their craft and guests started to pour out of the tiny church.
Stuart and Danielle had formally become Mr. and Mrs. Burdett and now the informal celebrations could begin and everyone wasted no time at all in doing so.
Amidst loud cheers and an outpouring of affection, the happy couple made their way towards the awaiting Lulu ready for a champagne toast and a group photograph with all the children that attended the ceremony, and what a lovely photo that made.
What a lovely, happy photo!
As the guests made their way to the reception Karen Wilkins (Danielle and Stuart’s professional photographer for the day), guided us to a secret location to capture some scenic and atmospheric memories of the happy couple whilst Olivia, Lulu and I looked on…
Alas it was time to return our VIP’s to their reception venue located literally on Perranporth beach, known as the ‘Watering Hole’ and let the real party begin!
It really was a most beautiful day in every respect – sun, sea, sand and a certain magical campervan. Fabulous!
Our best wishes go to a lovely couple x.
