The wedding of Amy Greenway and John Gillam at the Carbis Bay Hotel, Cornwall, on Monday 14th April 2014, with ‘Showgirl’ Lola
It was probably the hottest day of the year so far – the sky crystal blue. In fact, it was just perfect, which was good news for Amy and John because this was their long awaited wedding day.
Making the news the day that Amy and John tied the knot was the ongoing incursion by Russia into Ukranian territory. On a lighter note, speculation that the Duchess of Cambridge was expecting again came to an abrupt end after visiting a winery, sampling the produce and taking a white-knuckle boat ride!
Notable birthdays today included; Julian Lloyd Webber (cellist 63), Peter Capaldi (actor in Doctor Who 56), John Sergeant (broadcaster 70) and Richie Blackmore (Deep Purple 69).
On this day in history:
1865 – Abraham Lincoln was fatally shot by John Wilkes Booth
1931 – The Highway Code was issued for the first time
2014 – Amy Greenaway weds John Gillam
Chauffeur Steff picks up the story…
Lola’s activities commenced with the first of three pre-nuptial VIP trips to the ceremony venue; the Carbis Bay Hotel.
Opening the batting, as is often the case, would be ‘the boys’. Thereafter the plan included a further two sorties from the bridal boudoir; ‘the girls’ followed finally with the bride, Amy, to be escorted by her proud Dad, Ken.
Upon arrival at the groom’s apartment, I foolishly went to the back. My excuse being that it resembled the front – cunning these contemporary architects!
It appeared that I was not alone in my misunderstanding as the boys had evidently planned for this and were quick to dispatch a car to guide me to the front of the apartment.
Now safely positioned at the correct entrance and with plenty of time to spare, ‘the boys’ couldn’t refuse the opportunity to pose for photos with seductress Lola.
John, the groom, was accompanied on a memorable, but short chug by his best man; Pete, dad of the groom who is also a John, Richard, Bobby, Mark, Jay and Matt. It was downhill all the way to the spectacularly situated Carbis Bay Hotel.
Next it was back up the hill, destined for the nearby bridal boudoir. Suffice it to say, it wasn’t long before bridesmaids, Lucie, Becky, Kate and Helen were ensconced in the hotel and awaiting my return with the bride.
They didn’t have to wait long, as shortly afterwards we started our final descent with Amy, who couldn’t stop smiling throughout and her dad; Ken, beaming with pride.
The ceremony was conducted against one of the finest vistas anywhere in the world… the spectacular Bay of St Ives – what a backdrop!
So it was no surprise that following being pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Gillam, the happy couple decided that a trip into downtown St. Ives was in order.
By special request, we had a special stop for a few photos by the aptly named ‘Love Lane’. Indeed, it would have been rude not to.
A few poses on the beach and slipway followed before heading back to the hotel for the afternoon reception.
The couple’s official picture taker for their day was family friend, Chris Denner.
A beautiful day amidst beautiful company with the weather to match – our best wishes go to Amy and John for their future health and happiness x.
