Mirror, Mirror… time for reflection this Sunday at Gonwin Manor!

April 13th, 2012

Lily, Lulu & Lola with their mirror finish paintwork

What a busy weekend we have lined up here at Strawberry Leisure.

Two of our gorgeous girls are on wedding duty in Truro and Falmouth this Saturday ahead of Sunday’s  big wedding show at Gonwin Manor, Carbis Bay where all three will be making a sparkling appearance.

We continually get asked how we manage to get Lola, Lulu and Lily so shiny. OCD (obsessive, compulsive disorder), a good old fashioned waxing followed by tennis elbow!

So with sun forecast for Sunday it would be advisable to wear your sunglasses when viewing our multi-award winning campervans… there’s no need to bring a mirror though!

Strawberry Leisure is honoured to be invited to appear at West Cornwall’s new, up-market wedding venue. The Old Vicarage at Treleigh, Redruth, is putting on a special launch day on Sunday 22nd April and everyone is invited. We’re not sure which one of our award winning girls we will be taking along but either Lola, Lily or Lulu will be there gracing the entrance and flirting with arrivals!

The times are 11am to 4pm with Champagne and Canapés on arrival. The whole house and grounds will be open for viewing and there will be displays and demonstrations from wedding suppliers, including hair & makeup for guests to view and, who knows, perhaps a little pamper session thrown in! Bridal wear, wedding transport (of course!), men’s formal hire, wedding truffle favours, wedding cakes, wedding flowers, balloons and photography etc.

Also, providing the weather is suitable, champagne will be served in the Victorian cast iron columned gazebo which is licensed for weddings and accessed via a frameless glass bridge over the water. The organisers are also hoping to include some musical entertainment.

One of our gorgeous award winning girls will be in attendance…

Lola’s dash for the ‘titfer’and a right royal open top procession through St Ives!

April 11th, 2012

Nicola with Dad, Tony (minus hat), en-route to church

What a difference a day makes… Tuesday brought a welcome relief from Easter Monday’s unrelenting down pour just in time for Nicola and Rob’s wedding at Treleigh, Redruth. Chauffeur Bob with prospective new chauffeur Andrew riding shotgun, collected Nicola and her dad, Tony, along with bridesmaids; Rebecca, Amy and Nikki from Cornwall’s principality, making it to St Stephens Church with utmost military precision for their midday ceremony.

Lola’s full-length ragtop was fully back for the final approach in the glorious sunshine. The vicar, a self confessed Lola admirer, was in attendance and with camera shutters clicking and videography rolling, a rather concerned father of the bride tapped chauffeur Bob on the shoulder… “I’ve forgotten my Top Hat!” Ever resourceful chauffeur Bob offered his cap … silence! There was nothing for it – other than pulling a hat out of an unsuspecting rabbit, Lola would have to make a dash back to Truro for Tony’s titfer in time for the post ceremony photo-call.

Suffice it to say, Lola, with a 0 to 60 measured in hours rather than minutes, returned just in time to reunite Tony with his titfer. A pervading sense of calm descended. The photographer was happy and the local rabbit community could once again nibble in peace!

                  Tony and hat reunited

En-route to their Tregenna Castle reception the happy couple and entourage enjoyed a wonderful hour of fun, frolics and photos on Carbis Bay beach in glorious April sunshine. Given the incredible weather, rather than go straight to the reception, chauffeur Bob along with the father of the bride, persuaded Nicola and Rob into an open top lap of St Ives for some royal hand waving.

Wow! What a wonderful, moving and memorable few moments it turned out to be. Nicola and Rob literally rose to the occasion and remained standing throughout, chatting, toasting and exchanging thank you’s with hundreds of onlookers and well wishers, often bursting into spontaneous applause and whistling. Lola with her extremely rare, full-length ragtop once again reigned supreme and was unarguably instrumental in giving a lovely couple some incredible moments that they will cherish and remember for many years to come!

Did you know… a couple of factoids?

Titfer comes from the rhyming slang ‘tit for tat’ – hat!

Lily & Lola – head and shoulders above other campervans!

Not all VW split-screen campervans are the same. Quality is an obvious differentiator and a good reason to view, if possible, before you book. However, most don’t have full-length sunroofs or ragtops, as they are referred to in VW terminology. With the exclusion of the lesser spotted and rare SAMBA, such as our cream and white beauty, Lily, most are ‘Kombi’s’, the vast majority of which are tin tops. Our Lola is also extremely rare and unique in this respect as she is believed to be the only Kombi in the UK with an original factory fitted ragtop. So in Lily and Lola, Strawberry Leisure is proud to own the only two cream and white sunroof wedding and special occasion hire splitties in the county of Cornwall, offering simply stunning and memorable photo opportunities with lashings of light – a photographers dream!

Outright Transport Winners at Westcountry Wedding Awards!

March 30th, 2012

Chauffeur Bob with wife Kate receiving the coveted ‘Best Wedding Transport 2012′ award

Our success prompted the following Press Release…

After only two full years in business, Hayle based Strawberry Leisure, who provide chauffeur driven wedding transport in its classic VW split screen campervans, has just scooped a second top wedding industry award.  In December last Year, Essex based Dossier Weddings were so impressed that they ranked the company as the UK’s ‘Créme Of The Crop’.

This year however, at the Westcountry Wedding Awards finalists’ ceremony in Plymouth on 15th March, Strawberry Leisure were awarded the coveted prize of ‘Best Wedding Transport’. These awards are regarded as the wedding industry’s version of the Oscars and winners are chosen from votes and testimonials received from past customers. Entrants come from all over the South West, from Dorset to Lands End.

The reals stars of the show… Lily, Lulu and Lola, clearly in a league of their very own!

Strawberry Leisure is run by husband and wife partnership, Bob and Kate Amos.

Bob Amos explains; “What a fun and magical two years we have had, in what must be one of the most enviable jobs going – driving these wonderfully iconic vehicles for lovely couples on the biggest day of their lives. To win this latest award outright is the icing on the cake and is particularly well appreciated as it is judged purely on the feedback from the many lovely couples who took the time to vote for us. Moreover, it is a wonderful endorsement for the Cornish wedding industry, which also faired extremely well in other categories on the night.”

Rag Tops Reign Supreme!

March 30th, 2012

You can’t beat the balmy March weather we have been having.

Also difficult to counter, is the extremely rare experience of driving a classic split screen VW campervan with a full length ragtop rolled back… the warm sun beating down, the wind in your hair (chauffeurBob excluded), the light, and oodles of attention.

Extremely rare!.. a splittie like Lola with full length ragtop

On Wednesday, chauffeur Bob collected Lola from  renown vintage car trimmer David Nudd who is based in Penzance – Lola was dropped off a week ago for a pampering session, which included amongst other things, a new rag top and headlining.

Well, on the drive back to Strawberry Leisure HQ from ‘Nudd’s Boudoir’, chauffeur Bob reported that Lola was at her most
flirtatious… her mirror finish paintwork shimmering in the radiant sunshine and her ice cool rag top rolled back, caused a spontaneous outbreak approaching epidemic proportions of SJS (Slack Jaw Syndrome)! Lola really is becoming quite an exhibitionist, just like her siblings, Lulu and Lily!

Awards winning Strawberry Leisure Surfs-Up Surprises at Fistral Beach!

March 25th, 2012

Unarguably wedding campervans don’t come any better than this!

We were invited along to the Headland Hotel in Newquay today for their Spring Wedding Open Day.

As its name suggests, this imposing venue is spectacularly perched on the headland overlooking the international famous surfing beach of Fistral Bay.

Lola and Lulu were resting after a busy start to the year, so we took Lily, our drop-dead gorgeous 21 window VW Samba, wedding campervan along for her first wedding showcase of the season…

You could say she had more attention than you could shake a surfboard at!

Lily and Millie at the Headland Hotel, Newquay

With her mirror-finish cream and white paintwork, her full-length ragtop rolled back, she literally stunned arrivals with her pulling power and dazzling looks in the balmy spring sunshine!

Escorting her today and also stirring interest was ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’, our beautiful new, top of the range white Range Rover Sport, especially for those who prefer a contemporary classic.

Many thanks indeed to Claire, Viv and colleagues for their invite and friendly hospitality!
